Run Alex AC Junior Development
In the heart of our club, we have a remarkable individual who has taken on the role of nurturing and guiding our youngest members. Meet Anelisa Mzimazi, affectionately known as Coach Anelisa by our juniors. While not having children of her own, Coach Anelisa has embraced the responsibility of being a guiding figure for the 66 juniors under our care.
As a devoted member of our Juniors’ administration team, Coach Anelisa ensures the seamless administration of our Juniors' registration and facilitates their participation in provincial events. Her commitment goes beyond paperwork, as her kind heart has led her to take on the additional role of providing support to children in need. From sourcing shoes to ensuring they have meals and other essential forms of assistance, Coach Anelisa's dedication knows no bounds.
Professionally, Coach Anelisa is a science teacher at one of Alexandra's primary schools. Beyond the classroom, she takes charge of the Netball team, showcasing her passion for both education and sports. Her impact ripples through the lives of the young athletes she mentors, and her contributions extend far beyond her official roles.
Today, as a club, we pause to acknowledge and appreciate Coach Anelisa for her selflessness, dedication, and the countless sacrifices she makes for our Juniors. Her unwavering commitment to their well-being and growth exemplifies the spirit of community that defines Run Alex Athletics Club. Drafted by Siphiwe Nkosi, edited by

Basic Nutrition & Running 101 - Part 1 of 4: Superfoods for Endurance Running
As runners, our performance on the track or road running is closely linked to the choices we make off the track, especially when it comes to nutrition. In this ongoing series, Coach Ricardo will guide us through the essential elements of a balanced diet that supports our running journey. In this first installment, we explore "Superfoods for Endurance Running."
1. Eggs
Eggs are a powerhouse of nutrients, including protein, amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and omega-3 fatty acids. These elements aid in muscle recovery, prevent muscle loss, and contribute to overall health. Make eggs a staple in your diet to fuel your runs.
2. Cabbage and Spinach
Rich in vitamins and minerals, cabbage and spinach are the champions of reducing fatigue, building strong bones, and sustaining energy levels. These super greens also strengthen the immune system, helping you stay healthy during rigorous training schedules.
3. Beetroot
Packed with nitrates, beetroot enhances athletic performance and endurance, making those long runs a bit less daunting. Don't forget to include beetroot in your meals, especially before challenging workouts.

4. Sweet Potato
Fiber-rich and a source of slow-releasing carbohydrates, sweet potatoes are a runner's best friend for long runs. Vitamins A and C in sweet potatoes contribute to muscle health and joint pain prevention, aiding those prone to cramping.
5. Bananas
The runner's go-to snack, bananas are rich in potassium (cramp prevention) and vitamin B6 (energy utilization). Vitamin B6 ensures steady access to energy reserves, preventing the dreaded "wall" during long runs and races.
Incorporating these superfoods into your weekly diet can transform your running experience. Stay tuned for Part 2 of this series as Coach Ricardo continues to unveil budget-friendly foods ideal for endurance running.
Note: If you have allergies or digestion issues, make sure to seek professional medical advice for suitable alternatives.
That concludes the past two week's recap post, highlighting the incredible Coach Anelisa's dedication and introducing the importance of superfoods in your running nutrition. Stay tuned for more insightful articles, essentially the next parts of the technical corner where we will be unpacking listed recommended superfoods in more detail and general updates from Run Alex Athletics Club.
Past and Upcoming Events
Waterfall City Half Marathon Activation - Coach
A testament to our club's unity and enthusiasm, we proudly recount our involvement in the #WaterfallCityHalfMarathon Race held on August 6, 2023. RAAC played a pivotal role in ensuring the success of the event by managing a 5 -10 km water point station, the same spot as in 2022.
Our senior and junior members turned out in impressive numbers to participate in the race. It was a day marked not only by competitive spirit but also by a sense of camaraderie that is the essence of our club.

Among our outstanding achievements, we celebrate the remarkable accomplishment of one of our U10 juniors who secured the 2nd position in her category. Completing her race in an impressive time of 23:00 (exact time to be confirmed), she showcased the dedication and training that define our young athletes.
As Run Alex Athletics Club continues to shine in various events, we remain committed to nurturing talent, fostering community spirit and making a positive impact in every endeavor we undertake. We appreciate all clubs we collaborate with in trusting us with such massive responsibilities and hope to see you again soon.
