RUN ALEX CELEBRATES 7 YEARS
Transforming Alexandra One Step at a Time: A 7-Year Journey of Community Excellence!
Today, 20 January 2025, marks seven(7) years since Run Alex was formed. On this day in 2018 a few community members gathered at the Altrec Sports Ground to start a weekend training group, with the purpose of introducing a healthy lifestyle choice in the community of Alexandra and simply named the group Run Alex.
Today Run Alex has grown from a small running group to an organization that leads a lot of positive changes in the community of Alex.
Some of the our notable achievements are:
Formation of the most progressive community running club, Run Alex Athletics Club(AC). Through the AC, the organization has impacted many lives and has built residents from non-runner to multiple Comrades Marathon finishers
Formation of Run Alex Juniors - Through our Juniors Atheltics and Read Alex program, the organization has managed to marry sports and education. Giving children growing up in Alex an opportunity to participate in provincial athletics events and also providing them with a different platform to learn to Read and Learn outside the classroom.
Alex 10k Race - This annual race sees thousands of people flock to this forgotten township of Alex to participate in the 10km and 5km race. Not only is the race about running but it has a lot of financial spin offs for local businesses.
We reflect on this past seven years, with great pride and humility. We thank all our partners that assisted us in making most of our projects a success, the community if Alex and surrounding areas for supporting our initiatives.
We look forward to more years of bringing positive change to the community of Alex.
