Run Alex AC Junior Dev Cross Country Rundown

The 2nd CGA Cross Country league in Dobsonville community hall

Back (white jacket) Head of Development & Juniors Coach, Ronny Ndhlovu

Saturday 21 May 2022 was probably the coldest day of the year, in Joburg, this far. This did not stop our determined Juniors from participating in their first cross country event.

From 08H00 we were all snuggled in mini bus combis, overly dressed to keep warm. At 09H00 we touched ground at Dobsonville Community Hall and at 10H00 we began with our U8s taking part in the first 1km race.

The urge to do well kicked in, the cold weather became a secondary matter as some of us kicked off our shoes, ran barefoot in an attempt to do better.

This was our first cross country event, which provided a good learning opportunity for our young club and our Juniors. We all know what areas to focus on. The next event will definetly see us increasing our number of participants from the 25 that participated on Saturday.

The event that took place at Dobsonville Community Hall, saw our Juniors taking on their peers in the 1km through to the 4km events. Our youngest Juniors participated in the U8, 1km event, followed by our U10 who participated in the 2km event, then U11 and U12 who locked horns with their peers in 3km and finally U13 and U14 in the 4km event.

The event had a lot of learnings for both the club and the Juniors. We are already excited and looking forward to the next event.

This is a huge step for the club, as it fits in exactly with our objectives of giving an Alex Child equal opportunity and access to events that will expose their talents

Head of Development & Juniors Coach, Ronny Ndhlovu
